Wet 'n' Wild has today announced that it will be closing its doors from December 31st 2016, this is following on from the Universal announcement that it will open it's own water park in 2017.
The announcement was made on the Wet 'n Wild facebook site Post Quote - "After almost 40 years, Wet ‘n Wild Orlando will be permanently closing on December 31, 2016. Check out the Universal Orlando Resort blog for a thank you to our fans for all of the countless memories. http://bit.ly/1N2kqj4"
Universal Orlando has recently announced the Volcano Bay water park which is opening in 2017. This new park will have the look and feel of a tropical island and will be centered around a Volcano. Building work has already started just south of Cabana Bay Beach resort.
So why did the 40 year old water park close? Wet 'n Wild is owned by Universal which it purchased in 1998, in 2013 it purchased the previously 50 acre leased land so the real question is what will they be building there in it's place? Only time to tell and we will watch this carefully.
